Out of Body Experiences

QUESTION: Are out of body experiences healthy physically and spiritually?

ANSWER:

Many people have claimed to have gone through and even induced out of body experiences, but are they healthy for one's body and spiritual well-being?

Scientific research regarding the physical health of those who have experienced out of body experiences varies. Some claim benefits while others claim negative influences to the physical body. At this time, it is difficult to make a substantial argument either way.

According to New Age belief, out of body experiences provide a greater depth of insight into the spiritual realm and a broader viewpoint on life. Is this true?

What does the Bible say about out of body experiences? The Bible is very clear that we, as humans, are not to enter knowingly into other realms or interact with the spirit world. We are to stay clear of spiritism and other New Age philosophies. We are to receive our guidance from the Bible - from God Himself. Here are some questions we can ask ourselves when deciding if something is approved by God:
  • Does the Bible give guidance in this area?
  • Does it help or harm me or others physically, mentally, or spiritually?
  • Does it master me?
  • Does it glorify God?
When a person has an out of body experience, they are being mastered by someone other than God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
