Are the Celestine Prophecy books fact or fiction?

With a write up like that, what is the average person to think? Is this stuff for real or fiction?
Also, straight off the jacket of James Redfield's book, The Celestine Prophecy, there is even more language that misrepresents the book's contents. Let me quote the rest, "A book that has been passed from hand to hand, from friend to friend, since it first appeared in small bookshops across America, The Celestine Prophecy is a work that has come to light at a time when the world deeply needs to read its words. The story it tells is a gripping one of adventure and discovery, but it is also a guidebook that has the power to crystallize your perceptions of why you are where you are in life…and to direct your steps with new energy and optimism as you head into tomorrow."
This book was pushed and peddled as some sort of new enlightenment or cult. But when James Redfield was interviewed on TV, he readily admitted that his books were all fiction. Oh yes, there are more of these books - lots more! Redfield said that he was surprised at how readily people accepted his words and have actually turned into some sort of a fan club for his ideas.
No matter what Redfield's fantasies declare, reality is still reality, and his writing is just plain fiction - Good fiction, mind you, but not some earthshaking breakthrough into higher levels of consciousness.
